Katsucon was alright this year. A good chunk of all 3 days was running around either going places, taking forever to get in cosplay, waiting for shoots, waiting for people, finishing props and cosplays at the con and other misc things and I didn’t NEARLY spend enough time just hanging out with people.

Don’t get me wrong, it was great seeing people and cosplaying with them (I even saw some people I didn’t think I’d see again), but jesus I was really stressed for most of it. Nothing explicitly bad happened: no drama, no horror stories (even with the BBYO there throwing skittles at some of  my friends and the whole human chain bullshit blocking the closest elevators to my hotel room), yet nothing really “made my convention”.

I tried to do too many things and I didn’t have enough time or preparation to complete them all, and it made me even more stressed than I already was when I didn’t complete them so I couldn’t enjoy what little down time I had. Simple as that.

And as a side note, that cosplay video I tried to put together? Didn’t have a camera stablizer, too cold to film outside and the Gaylord was fucking overcrowded so we couldn’t film there, and not enough people showed up for me to work with besides. So, that thing isn’t going to be a thing anymore and I apologize and thank you guys so much for showing interest and giving your time at the con.

At Katsucon 2013, I want to film a music video to the song “Die Young” by Ke$ha, and I want it to celebrate the Homestuck fandom.

I’ve met many awesome and amazing people in the past year since I’ve joined the fandom, and it’s given me some of the best convention experiences I’ve ever had and friends I will surely have for life. You know why? It’s because everyone in this fandom is friendly, funny, talented, inspiring, kind, caring, immensely creative and most of all selfless. You don’t come across that in a fandom too often.

Many people in this fandom who are incredibly talented don’t get a chance to shine, and I know many regular fans want to get into a big project but don’t know how. I want to give them that chance.

So, I’ve decided to go to the con armed with a video camera and a tripod and film Homestucks having a good time, getting into antics and shenanigans. I’m also looking for cosplayers who want to act a few pieces I have scripted for the song (for example, when the line “taking shots” happens in the song, a whole bunch of Roxy cosplayers in a line throw back their martinis) and also improv their own short bits in character.

If you are interested, please meet me in Homestuck cosplay outside the Gaylord Hotel at the top of the hill in front of the bay at 12:30 PM on Saturday. If all goes to plan, we will finish up in time to get back to the public Homestuck photoshoot.

I will also be at the ball on Friday as Prince Gumball from Adventure Time, and I will be filming Homestucks dancing. Again, if you are interested, find me and I will notify you when I will start filming.

(As a sidenote, if you’re offended wondering about the song choice, A it’s catchy and something you can move to, B it’s a parody with some irony mixed in because many characters are kids who are growing up with a real possibility of obliteration in the comic (some are already dead) though they will try to stay alive/existing, C I’m going to be Meenah in this, directing/observing/interacting with everyone, more irony being her saying “we’re gonna die young” and she’s already dead.)

If we get one more person it’ll be 76 for Friday and Saturday, 64 if we get two. There are only four of us right now, so it’s not gunna be a really crowded room, but you potentially might be getting floor space. We will do our best to make you as comfortable as possible. You should be aware of the lesbian make outs and alcohol consumption that are probs going to be occurring in the room. All of this will be done responsibly since our designated sober person (me) can only handle so much.
